Race Breck

Breckenridge's local race program: a summer series of mountain bike races, the July 4 Firecracker 50, and a start line the whole valley shows up to.

Who they are

The race organizer for Breckenridge

Race Breck is how Breckenridge runs its races. It is run through Breckenridge Recreation, the Town of Breckenridge's recreation department, and riders sign up at RaceBreck.com.

Its stated aim is community: events that are fun, affordable and well organized, for first-timers and fast riders on the same course. Race Breck also runs youth racing through the Mountain Bike Junior League.

What they run

The events

Summit Mountain Challenge

A summer series of six mountain bike races, mostly on weekday evenings from late May to mid-August. Every race has a long course, a short course and a kids' course, and riders chase a series title across the season.

2026 races: Frisco Round Up, Tour de French Gulch, Peaks Trail Time Trial, Aspen Attack, Swan River Rampage and the Summit Classic finale.

Firecracker 50

Breckenridge's Fourth of July race. It is traditionally 50 miles, two 25-mile laps on mining roads and singletrack around town, and the start line sits right at the beginning of the town's July 4 parade.

Jeff Westcott and Mike McCormack started it, and the first race ran in 2001. Early editions hosted national marathon mountain bike championships. The Town of Breckenridge's recreation department now owns and runs it.

Junior League

The Mountain Bike Junior League is Race Breck's youth program, which brings kids into racing alongside the rest of the community.
